Frequency Controlled Drive Systems

ASME A/S is highly experienced in frequency controlled drive systems for crane/ winch-applications. For vessels the problem differs from land-based installations in so far as the main distribution plant on a ship is typically an IT-network. Hence, it is important to see that the installation is built with regard to possible harmonic and equalizing currents generated by frequency transformers. Harmonious currents generated by frequency converters may cause problems in certain contexts. This issue can be remedied by means of active filters compensating the harmonic currents or by adding an Active Front End to a frequency transformer, which is a controlled rectifier.
